Dr. Aminul Islam

“Most families arrive after a fall or a wandering episode. The goal is not to make dementia disappear — it is to make the day safe and the night quiet.”

Approach to care

Dr. Islam leads the clinical governance of every Senior Care care plan. Each new resident is assessed in person — cognition, mobility, continence, nutrition, medication and behavioural risk — and the resulting plan is written in plain language so the family can hold us to it.

His particular focus is deprescribing. Most residents arrive on eight to fourteen medicines, several of which no longer serve a purpose and some of which cause the falls or confusion the family blames on ageing. Reviews start there, in coordination with the prescribing consultants.

Clinical interests

  • Dementia staging and non-pharmacological management of agitation
  • Polypharmacy review and deprescribing in residents over 75
  • Falls prevention and post-fracture rehabilitation pathways
  • Advance care planning conversations with Bangladeshi families
